Silver Addy Award – Glens Falls Hospital Art Installation

Through Fingerpaint Marketing located in Saratoga Springs, NY – I had the opportunity to work with Glens Falls Hospital as they were going through a complete rebrand during the same time they were adding a new wing to the hospital. My time with them consisted of photographing various departments in the hospital to use for various marketing collateral for print to digital for promoting the new brand. I worked closely with the design team at Fingerpaint to understand the story they were looking to convey through images, and had an amazing time working with the staff at the hospital, including getting to scrub up to photograph a femoral artery surgery in the OR. It was truly a privilege to meet and work with the staff at the hospital and to have such an intimate experience feeling the various levels of energy each area of a hospital holds.

As a very special assignment, the hospital was building, in conjunction with the new wing, a connecting lobby to join the old space and the new. With this in mind, they were looking to create a exhibition space featuring unique and artistic medical imagery. Working with the team, we came to learn that one of the doctors has a collection of old medical equipment that he was willing to allow us to photograph. This was a prefect subject for this space – connecting the old with the new – and I chose to photograph these pieces against a stark white background, using my Profoto studio lights to craft modern, clean, sharp images for the exhibit.  What came out of it are what I share here – and what won me a Silver Addy Award for this project. The exhibition of these images is permanently hung in the connecting lobby, with a beautiful commemorative plaque that bears my name.
